How to Play goEmpire
Physical steps power your armies; your strategy conquers the realm. Queue your maneuvers during the day and watch territories clash at midnight.
Walking Powers Your Empire
In goEmpire, walking is not a minigame—it is the lifeblood of your war machine. You never need to walk a marathon; steady daily discipline wins the crown.
Command Provisions
Provisions are the currency of conquest. Every physical step measured by your phone’s pedometer deposits provisions directly into your vault.
Adaptive Fitness Balancing
Everyone can compete fairly. Our adaptive fitness engine scales provision earnings according to your personal baseline goal, so a 4,000-step walker and a 20,000-step runner hold equal tactical leverage.
Quartermaster Field Radio
Plug in your headphones and leave your phone in your pocket. As you hit step milestones (10, 250, 500, 1,000 steps), your veteran Quartermaster broadcasts voice dispatches and supply confirmations.
The Three Imperial Orders
Open your War Room whenever you have a free minute. Tap your Capital or territories on the interactive map to queue your moves.
| Order | Action | Provisions Cost | Strategic Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| RECRUIT | Train Fresh Troops at your Capital | 5 Provisions per Battalion | Bolsters defense of your Capital and creates mobile garrisons ready to march. |
| MARCH | Advance Vanguard into adjacent territory | 3 Provisions per Marching Troop | Claims unclaimed territories or attacks rival border provinces at midnight. |
| DEFEND / FORTIFY | Build Ramparts & Towers | 10 Provisions per Level | Doubles garrison defense armor, forcing attackers to commit overwhelming 2-to-1 numbers to break your walls. |
⚔️ Simultaneous Midnight Resolution Rule
Orders resolve at 11:59 PM UTC simultaneously. You do not react in real-time. If two rival armies march into the same unclaimed territory on the same day, a pitched battle occurs at midnight—the larger army takes the field, with defense bonuses applied to defenders!
🎯 How Midnight Combat is Decided (The Battle Math)
For commanders who want to plan ahead and calculate their odds, here is how the server resolves clashes when armies collide:
Each deployed soldier provides 1 baseline point of combat strength (e.g., 10 marching soldiers = 10 attack power).
Defenders behind stone walls or trenches receive a built-in force multiplier (1.5× to 2.0×). A 6-soldier garrison behind fortified walls defends with the power of 9 to 12 troops.
Team specializations add extra punch (e.g., the Supreme General’s Tactical Focus grants a +10% attack bonus on targeted provinces; Chief Engineers add +25% garrison armor).
Like rolling dice in Risk, a small random variance (±1 to 2 points) ensures every clash carries suspense. A massive force will almost always win, but close battles can go down to the wire.
- If the Attacker Wins: The defenders are routed. Surviving attackers occupy the province, the border flips to your faction color, and the survivors become the new garrison.
- If the Defender Holds: The attacking force is repelled or eliminated; surviving defenders retain control of the fortress.
- If Two Attackers Met: The faction emerging with the greater surviving force claims the contested province.
Winning the Campaign Season
Campaign seasons run over multiple days (typically 7 to 14 days). Domination is calculated by holding territory and securing strategic strongholds.
Territorial Domination
Every territory under your faction’s banner awards Victory Points at the Midnight Clash. The faction holding the greatest land area and most provinces takes the championship!
Capitals & Choke Points
Protect your Capital fortress at all costs. Losing your Capital disables fresh recruit rallying. Fortify mountain passes and river bridges to cut rival factions in half.
Morning Battle Report
Start each morning with the Morning Battle Report. Inspect territory shift maps, casualty tolls, and directives from your War Council Advisor for today’s march.
