Why I Started Games Afoot
Several years ago, I faced a choice: accept continued weight gain and cross into uncharted territory on the scale, or take action.
I chose to lose weight.
I started walking and exercising with discipline, but motivation faded as the routine became monotonous. Then I discovered an app that changed everything—it told an engaging story, but only while I was walking. For two months, it kept me moving. And then it ended. No replay. No sequel.
I searched for something similar, something for walkers like me whose knees couldn’t handle running. I was surprised to find a gap in the market. That gap sparked a question: could I create what was missing?
I knew exactly what I wanted: a game you could replay endlessly, with a story compelling enough to pull you outside even when you didn’t feel like it. Something multiplayer, playable with anyone anywhere.
I explored different concepts and technologies for months — the months turning into years, always chasing a finish line that seemed to recede like a distant horizon.
Then I found the right tools: Technology that could track steps and fuel a game. A mystery-exercise app that I called goAgatha came to life in 2025.
Then my wife asked the question that opened another door: “What about people who don’t like games?” That led to goWalkWise, where steps in the real world take you on a virtual tour of some of the world’s most fascinating locations.
Coming soon is goSherlock—another mystery game with longer stories that will challenge your skills of deduction.
This is Games Afoot, where #WeMakeWalkingFun.
We’d love to hear your story. Send us a message.
